In addition to the basic educational preparation needed to function as a registered nurse (RN), oncology nurses at Plaza must have a cancer-specific knowledge base and clinical expertise in cancer care that goes beyond what can be acquired in a basic nursing program.
Plaza’s oncology nurses participate in ongoing professional development that includes continuing education, quality assessment and improvement, and the review and clinical application of research findings.
Specialized competence in the area of cancer care is demonstrated by becoming an oncology-certified nurse (OCN) or an advanced oncology-certified nurse (AOCN).
