It includes a variety of procedures whose purpose is to help obese patients lose weight, thereby allowing them to ameliorate or resolve some of the serious health problems associated with obesity such as diabetes and high blood pressure.
Skyrocketing rates of obesity within the North Texas population, and corresponding growth in the number of bariatric surgical procedures performed at Plaza, make bariatric nursing an increasingly valued area of specialization.
Anyone interested in serving as a bariatric nurse at Plaza must first satisfy the requirements for certification as a registered nurse (RN). In addition, the specialized skills of a certified operating-room nurse (CNOR) are highly applicable to a role as an assistant in a bariatric procedure, as are those of the certified gastroenterological nurse (CGRN).
